Armenian Transport Ministry seeks foreign contractors for transport corridor construction

PanARMENIAN.Net - Presentation of North-South transport corridor investment programs, Project 1 and Project 2, were held on August 10 in Yerevan.

Armenian Minister of Transport and Communication Manuk Vardanyan, Governors of Ararat and Aragatsots provinces, Ambassadors and representatives of Embassies of U.S., Germany, France, Italy, UK, Kazakhstan, China, India and Turkmenistan attended the event.

“The presentation is aimed to ensure publicity for attraction of high quality and professional contractors,” Vardanyan told journalists.

“We addressed all embassies of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) country members, as well as Embassies abroad through Armenian Foreign Ministry, so that they could present maximally complete information on the program implementation and its importance,” the Minister said adding that it is planned to carry out similar presentations in Seoul, Beijing and Frankfurt next week.

Vardanyan noted that similar program on construction of concrete road of the first level is first time being implemented in Armenia, emphasizing that the road will be constructed from local construction materials, opposite to asphalt, that will boost other sectors of economy as well.

Besides, the Minister underscored that the main contractor of the road construction will be a foreign company with respective experience.

The total length of North South transport corridor will be 556 km from Armenian-Iranian border to Georgian. Asian Development Bank allotted a USD 500 million worth credit to fund a part of the North-South corridor construction program. The corridor will allow Armenia to become a transit state in regional transportation industry, as well as join the Black Sea circular highway.
