Georgy Vanyan as syndrome of venal Alternative

PanARMENIAN.Net - There are people in Armenia who are concerned over the statements by the head of South Caucasus Integration: Alternative Start NGO, Georgy Vanyan, who has been for years engaged in activity that can called be nothing but treason.

Let's Not Be Silent youth initiative called on national security bodies to institute a criminal case and launch legal proceedings against Vanyan. “In all countries there are bastards, who are ready to sell the most sacred values for gain, but Vanyan has exceeded all possible bounds,” the initiative said in a statement, reacting to the recent interview of “the peacemaker”, who called on Armenia to cede the liberated territories.

It's worth noting that the young people's call is somewhat unique, as Vanyan always went unpunished for his pro-Azerbaijani activity, organization of quite doubtful “cultural events” and statements the penalty for which in some countries would be extreme.

The members of the youth initiative are not mistaken to think that Georgy Vanyan definitely has close contacts with Azeri special forces and honestly earns Azeri petrodollars, as there is no other reason to make a man eulogize the enemy and defame his own homeland. The demand to initiate a criminal case is quite justified, although, according to article 229.1 of the RA Criminal Code, treason is punished with deprivation of liberty for 10-15 years.

The other matter is why the Armenian law enforcers allow Vanyan to proceed with his anti-Armenian and even pro-Azerbaijani activity.

It's also remarkable that the Vanadzor Branch of Helsinki Citizens' Assembly emerged to defend Vanyan, saying that he has the right to express his opinion. We can't but hope that it's not an evidence of the increasing number of Vanyans in Armenia.

The demand of the young people deserves appraisal. That is why PanARMENIAN.Net agency which has not mentioned Vanyan in its publications since 2007 decided to publish the call of the Armenian youth.

Back in 2007, a group of Armenian bloggers presented Vanyan, who organized Days of Azerbaijan in Armenia, with a bar of soap to make his job easier, and Vanyan seems to do his job with success.
