HP to sell 16GB TouchPad for $99 starting Aug. 20

PanARMENIAN.Net - HP will begin selling the 16GB TouchPad for $99 starting August 20. Likewise, the 32GB model will sell for just $50 more. For those that doubt the price cut, Future Shop (a Canadian subsidiary of Best Buy) has already dropped their price to $99, Daily Tech reports.

The world's largest PC maker announced Thursday, August 18, that it would discontinue the webOS smartphone and tablet business that it acquired by purchasing Palm last year. The company is also considering spinning off its high-volume, but low-profit PC business in order to focus on software and services.

The Apple Insider said that the cancellation of the TouchPad has been viewed as a major victory for Apple and the iPad, with some pundits reiterating their belief that the "tablet market" is really only an "iPad market."
