Iran tests new domestically manufactured radar system

The Islamic Republic of Iran has tested the latest model of a domestically manufactured long-range radar system, an Iranian official said.

The managing director of the electronics company Sa-Iran, Ebrahim Mohammadzadeh, said that the new radar system has the ability to detect objects at a range of several thousand kilometers. He went on to say that the test was successful and expressed hope that the new radar system would become operational in the next few years.

The Sa-Iran managing director also lauded Iran's achievements in the field of technology, saying that the country currently now has the capability to design and manufacture advanced radar systems, Press TV reported.

In June, the head of the Aerospace Division of Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said that the Ghadir radar system, with a range of 1,100 kilometers in radius, had become operational.

“The Ghadir radar has been designed and manufactured to discover air targets, radar-evading planes, cruise missiles, ballistic missiles, and satellites in low orbit,” IRGC Brigadier General Amir Ali Hajizadeh stated.

In 2010, the deputy commander of the Khatamolanbia Air Defense Base, Brigadier General Amir-Hamid Arjangi, said that the production project of Iran's new generation air defense radar system, with a range of 3,000 kilometers in radius, is in its final stages.
