RECOGNITION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE MEETS INETEREST OF TURKEY AND TURKISH PEOPLE, SPOKESMAN OF ARMENIAN FOREIGN MINISTRY SAID
23.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. "Difficulties in establishing Armenian-Turkish relations should not be linked with the Armenian Resolution," Ara Papian, Spokesman of the Armenian Foreign Ministry stated in his interview to Mediamax.
Mr. Papian stressed that in 1993 when the question on international recognition of the Armenian Genocide was not on the foreign agenda of Armenia, Turkey two times stationed its armies closer to the Armenian borders that was evaluated by Armenia as obvious threat.
The diplomat stressed that it is Turkey that is responsible for lack of diplomatic relations between Armenia and Turkey. "It is Turkey that continues blockading Armenia and displays unilateral and unbalanced approach to the Karabakh problem," Papian said.
"Turkey has to think more about its state interests than about the historic facts. Recognition of the Armenian Genocide is of interest of Turkey and Turkish people," the Armenian diplomat said. --0--
