WITHDRAWAL OF RUSSIAN WEAPONS FROM GEORGIA TO ARMENIA WILL MORE POLIRIZE THE SITUATION IN THE REGION, ARMENIAN POLITICIAN SHAHNAZARIAN THINKS

PanARMENIAN.Net - 20.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Withdrawal of the Russian weapons from Georgia to Armenia will more polarize the situation in the region, the chairman of the 21st Century party David Shahnazarian said.

According to him, today Armenia has turned into a factor of regional unstability. "In this light I do not reject that in case the local military conflict starts between Karabakh and Azerbaijan, Turkey may dislocate its forces in Nakhichevan,"

Shahnazarian said.

Today, the withdrawal of the military units from Akhalkalak's #62 Russian military base to Armenia has started. This morning 10 Russian military units were transferred to Armenia. During the period between October 20 and November 13 of 2000 overall 76 units of Russian military units will be re-dislocated from Georgia to Gumri military base.

From 1994 to 1995 David Shahnazarian was the chief of the Head department of the National Security of Armenia. In 1998 he was a presidential candidate, but had lost the elections. --0--
