ASHOT MANUCHARIAN SUGGESTS POSTPONING THE BEGINNING OF THE TRIAL OF "OCTOBER 27 CASE" AND FORMING A SPECIAL PARLIAMENTARY COMMISSION
18.10.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. I have all the necessary facts to confirm my statements that premier Sarkisian and speaker Demirchian were killed last year because of their disagreement with the plan of territory swap between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The political secretary of the Socialist Union of Armenia Ashot Manucharian stated this today at a press conference in Yerevan.
He said he also had all the facts that President Kocharian deliberately concealed this version from the investigation. However, Manucharian declared, he is not going to give these documents either to the president of the country or to the investigation group of "October 27 case" as he doesn't trust them.
Manucharian proposes to form two parliamentary commissions, one of which will study the negotiations round the territory swap plan and the other one will directly deal with the "case of October 27".
"In case these commissions are set up, I'm ready to give them all the facts, as well as to name "dozens of people" as witnesses. Until no commissions are formed, I'll have to quote all the facts "in an edited way", said the political secretary of the Socialist Union of Armenia.
According to Ashot Manucharian, it's also necessary to postpone the beginning of the trial of the direct executors of the terrorist act. He thinks that under present conditions everything is done to present the terrorists as acting alone - "some collective embodiment of Robin Hood".
In reply to the question where he has all this information from, Ashot Manucharian said: "In 1991-1993 a complete national security system was functioning in Armenia, but later it was terminated . Please do not mix it up with the Ministry of National Security. I still have contacts with many people who used to play a key role in the above-mentioned system".
In early 90s Ashot Manucharian held the post of the Minister of Internal Affairs of Armenia, President Levon Ter-Petrosian's Adviser on national security. -0-
