Subway drivers get extra pay at 2012 London Olympics

PanARMENIAN.Net - British transport authorities will give subway train drivers extra cash for working erratic hours during the 2012 London Olympics.

London Underground’s managing director Mike Brown said the 3,500 drivers will receive a one-time payment of 500 pounds ($790) for agreeing to have their normal schedules disrupted during the games. They will also receive overtime pay for the extra hours they work.

The famed London Underground plans to run extra trains during the games and keep them running later than usual give Olympic visitors time to see the events and travel around London. The games take place July 27 to Aug. 12.

Most of London’s subway drivers are unionized. Brown said London Underground and the unions both agreed to change the schedule, The Associated Press reported.
