"RELIGIOUS SERVICE REGULATIONS" SIGNED BY THE ARMENIAN CHURCH AND THE DEFENSE MINISTRY
15.09.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. Religious service regulations of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the Armed Forces of Armenia were signed in St. Echmiadzin on September 14, was reported to MEDIAMAX in the press service of St. Echmiadzin.
At the ceremony of the signing the Catholicos of All Armenians, Garegin the Second, and Armenian Defense minister Serzh Sarkisian were present.
The graduates of the theological seminary carry on religious military service in the ranks of the Armed Forces of Armenia since 1997. 20 clergymen serve today in the Armenian army as religious servants.
The regulations are called to systematize and regulate the activity field of the religious service.
The signing of the document is practically an application of the "Memorandum of Intentions", signed between the Government of Armenia and the Armenian Apostolic Church in March 2000. The Memorandum foresees the realization of joint work in the direction of religious and military-patriotic education of the servicemen. -0-
