Cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan to perform in Cambridge

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenian cellist Narek Hakhnazaryan, Gold Medalist of the 2011 International Tchaikovsky Competition in Moscow, joins the Boston Chamber Music Society ensemble to open its 2011-2012 Season of Piano Quintets on Sunday, October 16, at Sanders Theatre (Cambridge) with a program featuring works by Mozart, Loeffler, Schumann and Gubaidulina.

The 23-year-old cellist, whose other prizes include the First Prize in the 2006 Aram Khachaturian International Competition in Armenia and First Place in the 2006 Johansen International Competition for Young String Players, also studied at the New England Conservatory of Music and received an Artist Diploma earlier this year. This concert will be Narek's first public performance in Boston since winning the Tchaikovsky Competition in July.

The other musicians include BCMS violinist Ida Levin, violist Roger Tapping, pianist Mihae Lee and guest violinist Jennifer Frautschi and mezzo-soprano Krista River.

Program includes: Mozart: Piano Trio in B-flat major, K. 502; Loeffler: Four Poems, Op. 5 Schumann; Fantasiestücke, Op. 73; Gubaidulina: Piano Quintet (1957).

The event is supported by the Armenian Library and Museum of America.
