Philip Hammond appointed as UK Defense Secretary

Philip Hammond was appointed as Defense Secretary in the wake of Dr Liam Fox’s resignation, The Telegraph reported.

The Prime Minister was forced to announce the emergency reshuffle last night within hours of Dr Fox stepping down.

Mr Hammond is regarded as one of the Government’s most assured and confident performers. In opposition, he served as shadow chief secretary to the Treasury where he helped draw up the Conservatives’ public-spending plans with George Osborne.

Former Defense Secretary Liam Fox has resigned after a week of pressure over his working relationship with friend and self-styled adviser Adam Werritty.
