GERMANY TO SIGN AGREEMENT ON COOPERATION WITH ARMENIA IN MILITARY SPHERE
Germany intends to sign an agreement with Armenia on cooperation in the military sphere. Military attache of Germany in Armenia and Azerbaijan (residence in Moscow), colonel general Peter Shafranek told journalists. In his words, the main spheres of the Armenian-German military cooperation specifically are arms control and re-qualifying officer personnel of the Armenian armed forces to include them in the contingent of international peacekeeping forces. In P. Shafranek's words, Germany highlights political and geo-strategic significance of the Southern Caucasian region, including Armenia. He pointed out half a year ago Azerbaijan addressed Germany a request to strengthen bilateral military-political cooperation. Armenia has not made such a request yet. However, as since the very beginning the German government has resolved to take a parity stand towards both countries and to equally develop relations with them, it is decided to develop the military-political cooperation with Armenia, too, he noted. Yerevan welcomes the strengthening of the Armenian-German military cooperation, too, which was confirmed by head of the general staff of the Armed Forces of Armenia Mikael Harutyunian.
