Expert: Azeri wall at contact line spells Baku’s factual recognition of NKR border

Construction of a wall at contact line can be safely called one of the most unsuccessful steps in the history of Azeri propaganda, according to a political expert. As Sergey Minasyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, construction of a wall makes no sense from military viewpoint. “Baku’s intention being to protect itself from snipers, there’s no better protection than withdrawal of snipers from contact line on both sides,” he noted.

“Also, by constructing a wall, Azeri authorities factually accepted what they refused to acknowledge for years – the border of Nagorno Karabakh Republic,” the expert said.

The expert was sceptical over the possibility for the wall-to-be-built to exacerbate the situation at contact line or affect the course of Karabakh settlement.

Azerbaijan is planning on construction of a protective wall at the line of contact with NKR. According to Azeri media, a wall, 700 meters long and 3 meters tall, was already built near the village of Chyragly, bordering with Martakert Province.

Azerbaijan has been considering construction of a wall “to protect itself from Armenian snipers” since 2006.
