Nuclear power advocate Jack Ohanian dies at 78

Jack Ohanian, former associate dean for research and administration and a professor of nuclear engineering at University of Florida, died Monday, October 31. He was 78.

His family had not released the cause of death at press time, The Independent Florida Alligator reported.

Ohanian, who retired in 2001, was a professor emeritus of nuclear and radiological engineering and a passionate supporter of nuclear power. During his nearly 40 years at UF, Ohanian served as interim vice president for research and interim dean of engineering.

He was also the former chairman for the American Association of Engineering Societies and former president of the American Nuclear Society.
