57 MEMBERS OF BOTH HOUSES OF THE BRITISH PARLIAMENT APPEALED TO TONY BLAIR TO RECOGNIZE THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE OF 1915
27.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. On July 26 57 members of both houses of the British parliament appealed to the prime minister of Great Britain Tony Blair to recognize the Armenian genocide of 1915.
According to the information of the Armenian service of RFERL, this petition was organized by the British-Armenian All-Party Parliamentary group, which was set up in 1992 on the initiative of the Ambassador of Armenia to Great Britain, Armen Sarkisian.
The petition, addressed to the British prime minister, bore the names of 57 parliamentarians representing all parties, as well as more than 2600 other signatures. The petition noted that much of the evidence of the Genocide is in the British archives and that the 1916 Blue Book - an official government document - was among the first published accounts of the Armenian Genocide of 1915 going on in Turkey. -0-
