THE GENERAL PROSECUTOR'S OFFICE OF RNK NAMES "ILLOGICAL" THE DEMAND OF THE LAWYER OF THE EX-MINISTER OF DEFENSE OF RNK TO TRANSFER THE TRIAL TO YEREVAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - 21.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. In the interview to MEDIAMAX the press secretary of the General Prosecutor's office of RNK Kim Gabrielian named "illogical" the declaration of the lawyer of the ex-minister of defense of RNK Samvel Babayan - Zhudeks Shakarian, that in order to provide more impartiality it is necessary to hold the trial on the case of the terrorist act on March 22 regarding the President of RNK in Yerevan.

According to K.Gabrielian, RNK is de facto an independent state, with all the attributes of statehood, including judicial power. In this connection the press secretary was perplexed - "how Mr. Shakarian can defend the interests of a citizen of RNK, at the same time neglecting our state?".

According to Kim Gabrielian, the RNK legislation is known to Zh. Shakarian, and he can't but know that according to the Criminal-procedure code the crime is being considered in legal form in the country on the territory of which it was committed and where the preliminary investigation has been carried out.

"The declaration of Zh. Shakarian is groundless and pursues one aim only - to cast aspersions on the judicial power of RNK, charging it with incompetence, moreover, on the threshold of transferring the case to the court", declared K. Gabrielian.

The press secretary of the General Prosecutor's office informed that all the accused and their lawyers, except Zh. Shakarian and Samvel Babayan, have already got acquainted with the materials of the case of the attempt upon the President of RNK. He also reminded that the ex-minister of defense of RNK himself was discontented with the sluggishness of his lawyer. -0-
