THREE ARMENIAN SERVICEMEN HAVE DESERTED THE MILITARY UNIT, KILLING EIGHT PEOPLE
14.07.2000, MEDIAMAX, YEREVAN. The official sources of the information confirmed about an hour ago the information about the tragedy happened yesterday in one of the military units of Armenia.
As was reported to MEDIAMAX in the Information and propaganda department of the ministry of defense of Armenia, three servicemen - Tsolak Melkonian, Artak Alikian and Grigor Madilian have deserted the posts on July 13, taking firearms with them. After deserting the post they stopped a car, shot down the driver and the passenger and escaped by the taken car. On their way the fugitives shot two policemen, three contract-servicemen and a child. A man has also been wounded.
As was reported to MEDIAMAX in the Information and propaganda department of the ministry of defense of Armenia, one of the runaway soldiers was wounded during the arrest operation and he is now in the law-protecting bodies. The others are still in search.
Official sources do not spread any supplementary information to suggest any versions of the accident. As it became known to MEDIAMAX from reliable sources, the accident took place not on the territory of Armenia but in one of the military units located in Lachin humanitarian corridor, which links Armenia and Karabakh and is controlled by the military forces of RNK. -0-
