Sochi to host 40th European Olympic Committees General Assembly

The 40th annual General Assembly of the European Olympic Committees (EOC) will be held in Sochi between November 22 and 25. Russia was chosen as the host of the General Assembly in honor of the 100th anniversary of the Russian Olympic Committee.

The assembly will involve representatives of national Olympic committees from 49 European nations as well as delegations from countries vying to host various world sporting events.

The program of the 40th General Assembly includes reports by EOC President Patrick Hickey and International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Jacques Rogge on the current situation, as well as reports by representatives of organizing committees for the Olympic Games in London (2012), Sochi (2014), Rio de Janeiro (2016), Pyeongchang (2018), and the First Winter Youth Olympic Games in Innsbruck (2012).

The assembly will announce the list of candidate cities for hosting the European Youth Olympic Festival in 2017 and discuss many other important issues.

The assembly will present EOC Order of Merit awards and European Olympic Laurels, with the best European athletes receiving Piotr Nurowski Awards.

A conclusive press conference with the Russian Olympic Committee President Alexander Zhukov, IOC President Jacques Rogge and EOC President Patrick Hickey will be held November 24, Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics Infocenter reported.

At the event, Armenia will be represented by Armenian National Olympic Committee secretary general Hrachya Rostomyan, vice president Armen Shakhazizyan and department head Gabriel Ghazaryan.
