US POSITION TOWARDS ARMENIA TOUGHENED, ARMENIAN PARLIAMENT VICE-SPEAKER CONSIDERS
The accentuation of the US policy after the tragic events of September 11, 2001 told on the relations with Armenia, too. Armenian National Assembly vice-speaker Tigran Torosian told "Arminfo" agency. In his words, facts pointing to toughening of the US position in relations with Armenia are evident recently. Specifically, T. Torosian supposes, the political aspect of activities of various international organizations acquired more weight not without Washington's interference. At the same time the parliamentarian expressed confidence that nothing was being done in Armenia harmful to US interests. "It is possible that the toughening is connected with the entire region in the broad sense of the word, i.e. not only the Transcaucasia, but also the Near East," - the vice speaker noted. At the same time, in his words, Armenian politicians and political scientists give contradicting and sometimes sharp assessments to Armenia's relations with the US. Specifically, there are statements that US interests are being ignored to a certain degree to please Moscow. The same notion is observed in assessments of the Armenia-Russia relations. Within short periods of time Yerevan is accused in excessive adherence to Moscow, and then it is spoken of the need of more close relations with the Russian Federation. The contradiction of the evaluations evidences that Armenia successfully follows a balanced complementary policy. Such a policy, in the vice-speaker's words, along with a large potential implies serious danger, as in case of an error, it will be much more difficult to avoid the role of a target.
