RECOGNITION OF ARMENIAN GENOCIDE BY SWITZERLAND - VICTORY OF ALL PEOPLE KNOWING HISTORY, RUSSIAN POLITICIAN CONSIDERS
Switzerland joining the states, which have recognized the Armenian Genocide in Ottoman Turkey in early 20-th century, is an undoubted victory of not only Armenia and the world Armenian diaspora, but also all people, who know history, director of CIS Institute Konstantin Zatulin told his opinion to "Rossia" newspaper. In his words, the extermination of Armenians in the Ottoman Empire was the first genocide against an entire nation in the 20-th century. The absence of a timely and proper evaluation of the fact, K. Zatulin supposes, served as a nourishing environment for the Fascist Germany, which has committed acts of genocide against the Jewish people. He stated that Turkey has to take into account the fair demand of the descendants of the Genocide victims and compensate for the damage. "Unfortunately, I do not see the present Turkish government has any symptoms of refusing from opposing recognition of the Genocide. Moreover, in fact it blackmails Armenians demanding that they renounce efforts aiming at the Genocide recognition. And it is just inadmissible for Armenians," the Russian politician said. If Turkey itself recognized the Genocide, it would emphasize its progressive views and would form a new image of the country at the European Union, where it strives to get, he noted.
