Samvel Nikoyan opposes the “increase of parliament’s role”

PanARMENIAN.Net - Samvel Nikoyan, the ruling Republican Party of Armenia’s (RPA) nominee for parliament speaker dislikes the term “increase of parliament’s role.”

“I’d refrain from using the term above, much preferring “full implementation of functions as envisaged by Constitution”,” he stated at Armenian National Assembly.

“Going beyond Constitution-stipulated frames may result in violation of the principle of separation of powers as well as the policy of checks and balances,” he noted.

Dwelling on parliament-government relations, Nikoyan stressed that as a part of the ruling majority, he’ll always be rendering political support to the government, acting as a partner to the latter.

“Of course, the statement above does not suggest that the government’s legal initiatives won’t be discussed in detail,” the Nikoyan observed.
