Azerbaijani FM complains about Armenia to OSCE

Addressing the 18th OSCE ministerial council meeting, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov did not miss the opportunity to file complaints against Armenia’s “growing defense expenditures.”

Such statements sound rather ridiculous from the Foreign Minister of a country which boasts that its military budget several times surpasses Armenia’s state budget, totaling $2,15 billon in 2010 and $3,3 billion in 2011.

Moreover, Azerbaijan keeps expanding the geography of arms-supplying states including the countries which are mediating the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement. Meanwhile, international community turns a blind eye to Azeri gross violations of CFE norms accompanied by anti-Armenian propaganda, military rhetoric and threats to resume the war any moment.

Azerbaijan, embarrassed by Yerevan’s military parade dedicated to 20th anniversary of Armenian independence, keeps arming to the teeth. Nevertheless, Mr. Mammadyarov expresses readiness to continue talks in the meanwhile shifting the blame on Armenia in full acknowledgment for Baku’s responsibility in repeatedly foiling peace agreements.

On top of all, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister expresses willingness to establish personal closer ties with Armenia restoring confidence and friendly relations. Who Azerbaijan wants to trick with such statements? Armenia and Karabakh that still remember Sumgait massacres; international community that takes an interest only in Azerbaijan’s oil deposits; or its own nation?

Nonetheless, Mammadyarov’s wish will long remain just a wish unless Baku lays down arms and abandons the idea of conquering the Artsakh Republic and slaughtering its population.
