17th century Armenian Gospel Book auctioned at Sotheby’s

PanARMENIAN.Net - 17th century Armenian Gospel Book was recently auctioned at Sotheby’s. The starting price for the 1671’s manuscript was 4.000-6.000 pound, with the book sold for 13.750 pound.

The 271-page 250x175mm illuminated manuscript is written in black ink in a fine bolorgir script, capitals and rubrics in red. The book contains numerous small initials or small miniatures in margins in shape of colored foliage on gold grounds, ornamental colored cartouches, brightly colored birds or people.

No information as to the author of the manuscript or city of origin was provided at auction website.
