ACCORDING TO UNOFFICIAL DATA 7 THOUSAND ARMENIANS LIVE IN BELGIUM
According to unofficial data, about 7 thousand Armenians live in Belgium. As it was reported to Arminfo agency in the press office of the RA President, there are big Armenian colonies in Brussels, Atnwerpen and Liege. The information of the first Armenians dates from the beginning of the 11-th century. Due to the source, the chair of Armenology headed by Nikoghayos Adonts was opened at the Brussels University in 1931. Publication of "Armenian" edition began in Armenian and French in 1978, and "Effort" monthly journal issued by the Union of the Armenian democrats in two languages has been published since 1999. Comparably new Armenian Church is functioning in Brussels. Armenians occupies position in different spheres in Belgium: there are writers, doctors, lawyers and manufacturers involved in trade of gold and brilliants. There also exist three football teams in Belgium.
