Electronic board installation pilot project at Yerevan bus stops underway

PanARMENIAN.Net - In September, 2011 Yerevan saw the launch of a pilot project of electronic display board installation at the city's bus stops.

Currently, the board operates with 4 buses running on GPS system.

“Initially we faced the problem of combining GSM and GPS systems; now the problem is settled. Electronic display boards activate GPS signal as soon as the bus approaches,” Deputy Director of Yerevan technology management center Vahagn Tsaturyan told Dec. 15 news conference on Hackathon Yerevan 2011, adding that pilot stage of the project is still in progress.

Technology management center of Yerevan city linked the aforesaid with importation of 66 buses from abroad which was delayed due to bad weather conditions in China.

Mr. Tsaturyan further noted the high price of display boards and the problem of software package.

“Were the board software package developed in Yerevan, we would make significant savings,” he noted, adding that Hackathon Yerevan 2011 may find an acceptable solution to the problem.
