Project for persons with hearing disabilities wins Hackathon[YAN] 2011

PanARMENIAN.Net - On December 19, Hackathon[YAN] Yerevan-2011 award ceremony was held at Golden Tulip Hotel.

Assistant team’s mobile project designed for persons with hearing disabilities was granted AMD 350 000 in best project nomination set by Yerevan Municipality and Cronimet Charity Foundation.

Following teams received monetary awards by Microsoft Innovation Center: Open MS team (AMD 1 mln.)- for calculating traffic congestion, BigBrain –for a project introducing Kinect Stand information platform (AMD 500 000), I.N.S. – for TRREBIT project stipulating establishment of effective communication between the police and drivers (AMD 300 000), Cyber Gates team- for Mapy telephone project (AMD 500 000), as well as Annoisy team for a project designing a rapid reporting system in case of noise disturbing public peace (AMD 500 000).

TumoThon received the incentive grant set by alternative media resources .

iSun and Atlantis teams were also granted incentive awards. PanARMENIAN Media company received gratitude certificate for providing information support.

“Youth is the main driving force of IT sector. The event was aimed at using creative and innovative ideas for settlement of social issues,” U.S. ambassador to Armenia John Heffern said, stressing the importance of cooperation between IT companies and youth representatives.

Armenian Economy minister Tigran Davtyan, representatives from Yerevan Municipality and IT companies also attended the event.

The project was sponsored by Yerevan municipality, Microsoft Corp., Armenian representative of Counterpart International, Enterprise Incubator Foundation, leading telecommunications, IT and media companies. Information sponsor is PanARMENIAN.Net

Hackathon is a technical term deriving from the words “marathon” and “hacking”, the latter’s technical connotations implying improvement and better management.
