Saakashvili rules out possibility of snap elections

Georgia will see parliamentary elections in October, Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili said, ruling out the possibility of snap elections.

After meeting the head of the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) Zurab Kharatishvili, Saakashvili pledged to create all necessary conditions for international observers, as well as ensure financial support for CEC activity.

A number of Georgian politicians and analysts expected the elections to be shifted to spring for part of the opposition backing billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili not to have enough time to prepare for them.
