Turkish parliament to form Metsamor NPP probe committee

A special committee for investigation of Metsamor nuclear power plant activities will be formed at Turkish parliament.

According to Turkish MP Sinan Ogan, the NPP poses a threat to the whole region, with the country’s government and energy ministry taking serious steps to close it down.

After the start of operations in 1970, Metsamor NPP was closed down following the devastating Spitak earthquake in 1988. The plant was re-opened in 1995, with the second nuclear reactor launched.
