A senior Iranian Sunni Muslim cleric was assassinated by unknown gunmen in the town of Rask in Iran's Southeastern Sistan and Balouchestan province. late on Friday, Jan 20.

The latest reports suggest that Suleiman Kohsari, who was companioning the cleric, was also martyred in the attack. No one has claimed responsibility for the murder.

The assassinated cleric, who once escaped assassination in August 2010, was a prominent advocate of Sunni-Shiite unity, Fars News Agency said.
