FM: Arab League seeks to internationalize Syria's affairs

The Arab League is seeking to enlist international action in Syria's affairs, Syrian Foreign Minister Walid al-Mouallem said on Tuesday, January 24.

"I believe that this new stage of their planning against Syria is a call for internationalizing (the Syria issue)," he told a news conference, alluding to the possibility of the Arab League referring Syria to the U.N. Security Council, according to Reuters.

“Some Arab countries killed the Arab League's role and headed to the United Nations ... to internationalize the Syrian crisis,” al-Mouallem said during a press conference in Damascus, DPA reported.

Al-Moallem said Syria “is a mountain, ... unshaken by wind” and said he expected Arab ministers to be ashamed for not dealing with the observers' report objectively.
