MU's Alex Ferguson named Best Coach of 21st Century

The International Federation of Football History and Statistics (IFFHS), the organisation that chronicles the history and records of association football, has chosen Manchester United’s Sir Alex Ferguson as The World’s best Coach of the 21st Century with 166 points.

After 11 years, Ferguson leads with only one single point of advantage over Frenchman Arsène Wenger. Since they are both still active for English top clubs, the lead can still change in the next years. The much younger Portuguese José Mourinho, however, has already managed to approach the leading duo with 154 points.

Argentinean Marcelo Alberto Bielsa and Brazilian Luiz Felipe Scolari share the lead among South America‘s best Coaches of the 21st Century; they have the same number of points and a considerable lead over their South American colleagues.

At present the coaches in the "Top 10" are of 8 different nationalities, with only Italy (with Fabio Capello and Carlo Ancelotti) and Spain (with Vicente del Bosque and Rafael Benítez) represented twice. Only two trainers in the "Top 10" are coaches of a national team: Fabio Capello the English and Vicente del Bosque the Spanish one, IFFHS website reported.
