Rosatom head: new power unit works may be launched in 2014February 7, 2012 - 17:30 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Under Armenian government plans, construction of the new nuclear power plant should be completed by 2020, according to Rosatom corporation director. In this context Sergei Kiriyenko noted that all preparatory works must be carried out by 2012, attaching importance to the completing seismicity works on site. “Due to the perfect choice of the Armenian NPP monolithic slab, the plant withstood the earthquake in a very quiet mode,” Rosatom head noted. Mr. Kiriyenko further noted 2014 as quite acceptable for launching of works on site and preparation of the foundation. Armenia plans to construct a new 1000 MW power unit at the place of the existing NPP. According to RA Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources, the project may cost USD 5-6 bln.
