Armenia selects wrestlers for European Wrestling Championship

Serbia will host the European Wrestling Championship on March 6-11.

Chief Coach of Armenia's freestyle wrestling team Araik Baghdadyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter that two wrestlers will be selected in nearly all weight categories.

Gegham Babakhanyan and Mihran Jaburyan (55kg), Arthur Arakelyan and Narek Sanoyan (60kg), David Safaryan and Zhirayr Hovhannisyan (66 kg) are nominated. Musa Murtazaliyev, Suren Markosyan (74kg), Hajimurad Nurmagometov, Gevorg Avsharyan (84 kg) and Ruslan Basiyev (120kg) will also participate in the European Championship.

“We have chosen young wrestler Andranik Gevorgyan (96kg). If we fail to present a wrestler in this weight category at the European Championship we won’t be able to bid for the Olympics. Edgar Yenokyan is recovering from an injury, he has two months ahead of him, and I hope he will make it for the qualification tournaments,” Baghdadyan said.

The national team is currently training in the Football Academy in Yerevan and will head for Belgrade on March 4.
