ARMENIAN OFFICERS DID NOT SUCCEED IN LEAVING FOR BAKU TO PARTICIPATE NATO CONFERENCE
Armenian officers, who set off for Baku to participate in the arranging conference on "Best Effort-2004" NATO military exercise did not manage to enter Azerbaijani capital city. In the words of RA defense minister's press secretary Seyran Shakhsuvarian, they will return to Yerevan from Istanbul tonight. The Armenian ministry of defense possesses information that by instructions of the Azeri consulate in Istanbul the corresponding Turkish services did not allow the Armenian officers aboard the Istanbul-Yerevan airplane. At the same time S. Shakhsuvarian found difficulty in explaining on what kind of pretexts it was done. The details will be known upon the arrival of the Armenian servicemen in Yerevan, he noted. To remind, last week Azeri Embassy in Tbilisi without any explanation rejected to issue entry visas for the Armenian officers. However the Armenian delegation hoped to get them at the Baku airport. Meanwhile, in the opinion of independent observers, having not allowed the Armenian servicemen to take part in the "Cooperative Best Effort-2004" arranging conference, Azerbaijan violated one of the fundamental principles of NATO's "Partnership for peace" program.
