Six months after the launch of the Range Rover Evoque Coupe, Land Rover is about to unveil a convertible version of the critically acclaimed vehicle.

According to Digital Trends, following the success of Land Rover’s Range Rover Evoque Coupe, the car company is set to unveil a Range Rover Evoque Convertible concept vehicle at the Geneva Motor Show next month. Judging from these images, it should create quite a stir among visitors to the event.

Land Rover is keen to see how it’s received by auto enthusiasts - if the reaction is positive, the soft-top could be in car showrooms within the next two years.

The car, which seats four, features a fully retractable premium roof system which at the touch of a button eases the top out of sight under a cover at the rear. It also incorporates a roll-over protection system, the same found on the Jaguar XK sports car. The system, upon detecting an impending roll-over, deploys two extremely strong hoops behind the rear seats to provide extra protection for the vehicle’s occupants.

Much of the car’s tech is carried over from the Evoque Coupe, including the surround cameras, an 8-inch touchscreen and a Meridian sound system.

Land Rover Design Director Gerry McGovern, who together with his team came up with the look and feel of the car, said he believed the Evoque Coupe lent itself perfectly to the idea of a convertible. “We have worked with the balance of the Range Rover Evoque’s lines to retain its distinctive shape and create something that is unique and, we believe, highly desirable,” he said.

And highly desirable it will most probably be - for those that can afford it, at least. If it does make it to the showroom, it’s expected to sell for between $55,000 and $80,000.

The appearance of this convertible version shows Land Rover is keen to capitalize on the success of its highly praised Evoque Coupe model, which has won over 90 international awards since its launch six months ago.
