ANC rating highest in Armenian society, Congress spokesman says

PanARMENIAN.Net - The opposition Armenian National Congress (ANC) has the highest rating in the Armenian society now, and it is going to use this to secure victory at elections, press secretary of ANC leader Levon Ter-Petrossian said.

The mayoral elections in Hrazdan when the “total governing machine tried to prevent Sasoun Mikaelyan from being elected” have proved this, Arman Musinyan told a press conference in Yerevan.

“Sasoun Mikaelyan gained 46% of votes in such conditions. I believe this index can be projected on Armenia,” he mentioned.

Musinyan noted he cannot say how many mandates ANC will get after the elections since the political processes in the countries are developing quite quickly. He just stressed that the number of mandates is not an end in itself for ANC but rather a method of combating “the ruling regime”.

Musinyan also commented upon the recent surveys showing that ANC ranks third after the Republican Party of Armenia and the Prosperous Armenia party saying that, as practice shows, surveys cannot be trusted in Armenia. To prove his words, Musinyan reminded of the presidential elections in 2008 when Levon Ter-Petrossian was about to gather approximately 5% of votes according to surveys.

Current mayor of the town of Hrazdan, Republican Party of Armenia (RPA) candidate Aram Danielyan won the Feb 12 mayoral race.

He garnered 13079 votes, while Armenian National Congress (ANC) opposition bloc member Sasoun Mikaelyan gained 11506 votes, according to Central Election Commission website.
