TEHERAN NOT WELCOMING ARMENIAN TV JOURNALISTS
Armenian TV journalists will be deprived of the opportunity to observe the parliamentary election in Iran to be held February 20. Having addressed a corresponding request to the Iranian Embassy in Yerevan, Shant TV company, among others, was going to send a group of TV journalists to Iran to cover the election. Entry visas were promised to be provided to the journalists, however it was not done within the necessary period of time. The terms suggested by the Embassy made the journalists refuse from the trip, as they were virtually deprived of the opportunity of not only getting acquainted with preparation to the vote, but also solving technical problems referring to buying tickets. It is not known, whether the actions of the IRI diplomatic representation are due to Shant TV channel news paying much attention to illegal refusal to register thousands of deputy candidates from reformatory parties of Iran. The obstacles put by the Embassy seem rather strange, taking into account that a large group of Azeri journalists, invited to cover the election, arrived in the country February 16. It is noteworthy that journalists will be allowed to visit regions of the country populated by Azerbaijanis and to meet with leaders of local Turkic separatists.
