Windows Armenian language interface creation to benefit  provincial users

PanARMENIAN.Net - There is a strong need to create Armenian language interface of the Microsoft software, according to Microsoft Armenia country manager.

“Users of Armenian provinces experience language problems that hamper use of information technology,” Grigor Barseghyan told a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter.

He pointed out defining use of terminology and specific language in future and broad use of understandable terms as the two major problems Armenian-language interface creation would solve in the field of education.

Mr. Barseghyan noted that the initiative should bear a continued nature as software packages are constantly updated with new terms being added.

Dwelling on the discussion of creation of the Armenian-language interface of the Microsoft production scheduled for March 16, the country manager stressed the plan to involve state institutions and organizations in the process, besides the representatives from National Inspectorate of Language.

Asked about the amount of money invested for the project implementation, Mr. Barseghyan refrained from answering, noting, “All applications of the Armenian language interface creation are available in Microsoft website, free of charge. This is one of our investments. However, I can’t name the exact amount of money provided for the process, as it is a commercial issue.”

Microsoft Armenia recently launched the creation of Armenian-language interface of Windows 8 operation system. Prior to that, Windows XP, Windows 7, Office 2007, 2010 software packages, as well as the Internet Explorer browser had regularly undergone the same process.

The project is implemented by Biline Company and Eurasia Foundation. The cooperation of the two enterprises involves best professionals and linguists in the process.

Ordinary users can also foster the project, visiting special forums and proposing their own variants of the terms or voting for them.
