Heritage former secretary: electoral list cut party’s chances at elections

Former secretary of the opposition Heritage party Karine Hakobyan quit the party due to disagreement over the party’s electoral list she believes lacks logic.

“I think the content of the list decreased chances of Heritage to succeed in the elections,” she told a press conference in Yerevan.

As to the joint activities of Heritage and Free Democrats, and possible merger by the Democrats, Hakobyan does not see any such threat. In this context she said the Free Democrats will admit Raffi Hovannisian’s leadership.

As to the position of Heritage leader within his party, Hakobyan says is it very strong, and the published electoral list comes to prove this.

On March 18, Heritage opposition party hosted a board sitting, followed by a council session.

The session focused on party strategy at the oncoming parliamentary elections, with joint candidates list approved in accordance with prior agreement with Free Democrats party.

Among those nominated were Stepan Safaryan, Zaruhi Postanjyan, Armen Martirosyan, Ruben Hakobyan, Anahit Bakhshyan, Gagik Margaryan.

In a conversation with a PanARMENIAN.Net reporter, Heritage spokesman Hovsep Khurshudyan refused to provide comments as to the fact that public figures, rather than current MPs, were listed first in the candidates list. As he noted, official explanations will be offered on March 20.
