Netflix, Eli Roth team up for "Hemlock Grove" gothic horror series

Netflix, Eli Roth team up for PanARMENIAN.Net -

Netflix and horror maestro Eli Roth have finalized a deal for the filmmakers' 13-part gothic horror series, "Hemlock Grove" to premiere in early 2013, The Wrap reported.

The deal continues Netflix's foray into original content. The streaming giant will also distribute shows including the David Fincher-Kevin Spacey political thriller "House of Cards" and new episodes of "Arrested Development."

"Hemlock Grove" will overflow with murder, mystery and monsters, all set against the backdrop of ravaged Pennsylvania steel town. The series is based on a book of the same name by Brian McGreevy.

“Hemlock Grove” kicks off after the body of a murdered young girl is discovered in the shadow of the former Godfrey steel mill.

From there the list of suspects grows to include a gypsy kid, the son of the town steel magnate and an escapee from a biotech facility. It sounds a bit like AMC's "The Killing," but with werewolves.

Famke Janssen ("X-Men") and Bill Skarsgard (Joe Wright's upcoming "Anna Karenina") will co-star. Gaumont International Television is producing the show.

Roth is best known for his ultra-violent horror franchise, "Hostel."

“Eli Roth is a master of this genre and Brian McGreevy’s brilliant novel gives Roth a world where he can create his magic,” Ted Sarandos, Netflix Chief Content Officer, said in a statement.

“‘Hemlock Grove’ is a sly blend of J.D. Salinger and Mary Shelley and will appeal to a broad base of fans captivated by these rich characters and stunning visuals.”
