Ilham Aliyev is getting angry, which means he is not rightThough it's not the first time that the President of Azerbaijan has made harsh statements, which put under question his ability to sufficiently understand the reality, "the dismissal of the Minsk Group" is something completely new. The present visit of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs on Nagorno-Karabakh conflict regulation, in fact, doesn't differ from the previous ones: the shuttle democracy still keeps Azerbaijan away from the temptation of unleashing a war. But in spite of this, Baku continues deluding the population of the country and the latest statements made by the famous political scientist Vafa Guluzade, who "doesn't expect anything positive from the visit of the co-chairs" may serve as a proof. ![]() PanARMENIAN.Net - Commenting upon the visit of the co-chairs, he announced: "If they had new proposition, they would have already made it long ago. For the moment they try to expedite Azerbaijan in the process of the conflict regulation at the expense of giving away a part of the Azeri territory to the Armenians." Assessing the statement of President Ilham Aliyev, made last Friday, when the President of the country set his deadlines, after which he promised to review the policy of Azerbaijan in Karabakh issue, V. Guluzade announced: "Ilham Aliyev has in fact warned the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs saying that he would fire them. With these words he expressed his dissatisfaction with the OSCE Minsk Group's activity. By the end of 2008 the President wants to have a reasonable answer from the co-chairs regarding the possibility of a peaceful resolution of the process, after which Azerbaijan will decide which mission it will entrust the further development of the peacemaking process. Though it's not the first time that the President of Azerbaijan has made harsh statements, which put under question his ability to sufficiently understand the reality, "the dismissal of the Minsk Group" is something completely new. To all appearances the income from the petrodollars, the Turkey's support and Europe's interest in gas "convinced" him in his rectitude and power. According to the former OSCE Minsk Group from Russia Vladimir Kazimirov, such announcements of the President of Azerbaijan are not serious and it is simply funny to make any comments upon them. The Presidents of Armenia and Azerbaijan are introduced the documents on conflict regulation, which should be acceptable for both parties. The OSCE U.S. envoy Matthew Bryza said to the journalists in Yerevan. According to him, the Presidents carefully study the submitted document. "We have been to Baku, where we met the President of Azerbaijan and discussed the document agreed by us and the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of both countries, a similar discussion was held in Yerevan with President Robert Kocharyan. We are also intending to visit Stepanakert to have a better image of the situation in Nagorno-Karabakh, afterwards we will return to Baku. Now both parties involved in the conflict have a very good chance to come to an agreement," mentioned Matthew Bryza. The American diplomat expressed his hopes for the possibility to reach at least an oral agreement upon the document, "We understand that it will take time, and it won't happen tomorrow, but maybe it could happen in a couple of months," said the American mediator. The truth is though, that the American diplomat mentioned that he has some kind of careful optimism towards the agreement. By the way, the story with "the dismissal" is very much alike Turkey's refusal to allow the U.S. troops to Iraq in 2003. Later, the very Ankara, not being able to fight the Kurds, turned to the Washington. And if today the USA says that Turkey shouldn't interfere in the relationship between Armenia and Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev had better follow this advice instead of threatening OSCE Minsk Group, which does its best, and allow the international organizations visit Nagorno-Karabakh the way these organizations desire, i.e. through Yerevan. ![]() ![]() Who is who in the web of so many Sargsyans Controversy in quotations Split of opposition votes There will be no ideal solution ![]() ![]() ![]() 6 simple facts about Armenia–Karabakh–Azerbaijan triangle ![]() Main arguments of Armenia’s first President ![]() Bizarre election promises ![]() | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
