ARMENIA CELEBRATING DAY OF FIRST REPUBLICMay 28, 2004 - 18:44 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - Today Armenia is celebrating the Day of First Republic. The First Republic of Armenia was proclaimed May 28, 1918, however it existed for only a period of 2 years after what the Soviet Power was established in Armenia. A number of solemn measures will be held in the country on the occasion of the holiday. Armenian President Robert Kocharian is expected to visit the memorial complex in Sardarapat where in 1918 the Armenian people defeated the Turkish aggressors. Dashnaktsutyun Party, which ruled over the First Republic in 1918-1920, will conduct holiday measures in Yerevan and in Nagorno Karabakh capital city of Stepanakert.
