RALLY IN SUPPORT OF ARMENIAN POPULATION OF GEORGIA HELD IN FRONT OF GEORGIAN EMBASSY IN YEREVAN

PanARMENIAN.Net - A protest action was organized in front of the building of the Georgian Embassy in Yerevan April 14, Regnum news agency reported. The event aimed at supporting the Armenian population of Georgia, specifically residing in Samtskhe-Javakhetia. The students gathered in the center of Yerevan had posters in their hands, which read "Policy of assimilation of Armenia held in Georgia," "No to Georgian nazism," "No to Georgianization," "White Genocide is perpetrated against Armenians of Georgia." In the words of organizers of the action, they do not pursue any political goals and the rally is of exclusively peaceful nature. "We understand that Georgia pursues a national policy, however it oversteps all reasonable limits, action organizer Arsen Balyan stated. The action participants handed a letter to envoy Georgi Saganelidze, who, in their words, assured no Turk-Meskhetians will be settled in the regions of Georgia, populated by Armenians. In the envoy's words, internal roads will be repaired in Akhalkalaki this autumn. Besides Akhalkalaki-Tbilisi highway will be built and the energy issue will be solved before the autumn. As of the destroying of Armenian historical and cultural monuments, the envoy assured that those guilty are already punished, nothing threatens the monuments any more and they are under the state protection. The organizers of the action stated that before the autumn of 2005, i.e. before the terms set by Saganelidze, no protest actions are planned.
