Practical Steps Preferred in Armenia-NATO Cooperation

PanARMENIAN.Net - Armenia's cooperation with the NATO represents a «pragmatic partnership based on good relations», NATO Secretary General Jaap de Hoop Scheffer stated at a joint news conference with the Armenian leader in Brussels today. In his words, Armenia has built its relations step by step, not creating theories and preferring practical moves. When answering a question on Armenia's relations with the NATO in five or ten years, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer proposed focusing on implementation of the Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP). In his words, speaking of the further content of the cooperation will be possible after successful implementation of the Program. The NATO SecGen appreciated Armenia's Presentation Document, expressing confidence that «a very good IPAP» would be worked out based on it. He appreciated the participation of Armenian servicemen in the peacekeeping mission in Kosovo. Karabakh settlement issues were also discussed with the Armenian President, Jaap de Hoop Scheffer said. In his words, as before NATO does not work for having a direct part in the peace process and promoted the OSCE Minsk Group efforts.
