Oskanian: From 18 December Relationship Between Armenia and NATO Will Mark New Level

PanARMENIAN.Net - "The concluding discussions between Armenia and NATO related to Individual Partnership Action Plan, proposed by Armenia, took place in Brussels" the Armenian Foreign Minister Vartan Oskanian stated during a press conference held in Yerevan today. He also declared that if the NATO Council doesn't bring any objections till 18 December, then the document would automatically take effect. "We do not expect any objections", V. Oskanian noted. According to him, "it is expected that after 18 December the relationship between Armenia and North Atlantic Treaty Organisation will mark a new level, which presumes a more active role of Armenia in NATO programs".

Asked about the creation of demarcation lines in South Caucasus in case Georgia and Azerbaijan enter NATO, Vartan Oskanian said that the creation of such lines in the region is not desirable for Armenia. He also stated that the issue of Georgia entering NATO is seriously discussed at present and it is not excluded that this could well happen within 5 or 6 years. He also said that the issue of Azerbaijan membership in NATO was not at stake.
