Armenian FM: Armenia Should Continue Complementary Policy Next Year

PanARMENIAN.Net - "Armenia should continue complementary policy to intensify relations with Russia, continue cooperation with the US, work in the European direction, involve neighboring states in cooperation and try to attain peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict," Armenian FM Vartan Oskanian stated in the air of the Armenian Second TV Channel. In his words, a rather complicated situation is formed in the Caucasus. "Each country is trying to lead the region in different directions, being well aware that it can result in failure. Each country pursues its own national interests, not showing understanding towards the interests of more powerful countries. And this is the greatest mistake," Oskanian remarked.

The effectiveness of Armenia's policy lies in taking into account the interests of countries important to it while pursuing own goals, V. Oskanian said. Only this caution can help avoiding creation of dividing lines in the region, the Minister believes. Having reminded of Georgia's urge to become a NATO member, the Minister remarked that Azerbaijan has not applied yet, however it shows caution in relations with that organization. "Our position in this respect is a very clear one - we strengthen relations, however we do not pose a question of membership. Today we - the three countries of the South Caucasus - should realize and start cooperation in that direction for avoiding creation of dividing lines in the region," the Armenian FM summed up, reported IA Regnum.
