ARMENIAN AUTHORITIES PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO PHYSICAL PROTECTION OF NUCLEAR POWER PLANTDecember 3, 2002 - 22:50 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - The Armenian ministry of energy together with the Russian respective structures are working out a scheme of payment for the nuclear fuel being supplied for the Armenian atomic power station by the Russian party and keep working at the contract on supplies. Armenian president Robert Kocharian stated it at the sitting of the nuclear power security council of Armenia. Speaking of providing for the Armenian nuclear power plant security, the president noted that a number of measures important from the point of view of security were taken at the station during the past year. Planned preventive and repair work is being carried out at the station at present. In Kocharian's words, in the light of the recent events in the world relating to acts of terrorism, the Armenian authorities pay special attention to the improvement of the physical protection of the station. The Armenian leader noted with regret that the European Commission of TACIS - 2003 nuclear security program has not provided for financial resources for Armenia. Nevertheless, he noted, the Armenian foreign ministry and ministry of energy actively work for the program to include Armenia.
