TURKEY NOT WANTED IN EU

PanARMENIAN.Net - Muslim Turkey should not become the European Union member, German weekly "Die Zeit" writes. As reported by Turkish daily "Hurriet" newspaper within "The Turkish Question" rubric, the article author grounds his opinion by a number of trenchant arguments, firstly by the fact that the leader of the Islamic party, which makes parliamentary majority in the country, took office of Turkish Prime Minister in 1995. The article author states that it conflicts with Western values and adds, "Turkey is not a part of Europe by its geographical position, historical past, religion, culture and mentality." Among the reasons why Turkey cannot join Europe is also the fact that the Islamic fundamentalist party of Germany already has 32 thousand members, which one cannot remain indifferent towards. Mentioning the number of unemployed in Turkey, which is now over 30%, the author is perplexed: why to open the way to Europe for them? At the same time the article noted that the West sometimes needs Turkey, for instance, when preparing military operations against Iraq.
