Amnesty did not justify Heritage Party's hopesJune 23, 2009 - 17:18 AMT PanARMENIAN.Net - "Recently announced amnesty did not justify Heritage Party's hopes. We expected the amnesty to be more in synch with Christian values and signal a new phase in Armenia's political life. We've again become witnesses to purely political calculations. The amnesty was a result of external pressure, rather that internal processes,'' Heritage Faction Chairman, MP Armen Martirosyan told a news conference.According to Armen Martirosyan, the amnesty can't solve political crisis in Armenia, it might only mitigate its influence on society. The MP also expressed his regret about amnesty being applied only to prisoners convicted for March 1, 2008 events. In his opinion, the amnesty must include all those convictedd before the events specified, eg. Jamanak newspaper Chief Editor Arman Babajanyan. "By announcing the amnesty, the authorities can't close the books on the events of March 1, 2008. The case could be closed only after all the circumstances of those days are discovered," Armen Martirosyan stated. ![]() ![]() Grigoryan added that the situation around the world and particularly in the region is very difficult. The Armenian Defense Ministry has denied Azerbaijan's accusations of violating the ceasefire. Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan took to social media to thank his Lithuanian counterpart for the contribution. President of the Armenian parliament Alen Simonyan met with the Speaker of the Azerbaijani Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova. ![]() ![]() Partner news | ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |
