OFFICIAL YEREVAN WELCOMES CONTACTS BETWEEN REPRESENTATIVES OF ARMENIA AND TURKEY

PanARMENIAN.Net - At the press conference held today Armenia's foreign minister Vartan Oskanian has stated the official Yerevan welcomes not official contacts of the representatives of Armenia and Turkey. At the same time he has noted the current problems in the relations between the two countries should be solved at the state level. The minister has noted that Armenia is ready to establish diplomatic relations with Turkey and open the borders without any precedent conditions. According to him, despite the efforts of Armenia's leadership, progress in Armenian-Turkish relations was not made last year. Ankara, as it did before, as precedent terms for establishment of the diplomatic relations with Yerevan considers recognition of Karabakh as a part of Azerbaijan and giving up the support of the international campaign for the genocide recognition. Vartan Oskanian has made a supposition that the international situation in the world after September 11 will make Turkey overcome several barriers and contact Armenia to establish normal relations.
